Welcome to the first post of Bonjour, Bijou!
I have created this blog in order to chronicle my adventures while living in France.
Currently I am preparing leave the country to spend seven months as a teaching assistant with the Ministry of Education {yes, just like the Ministry of Magic}.
I am about halfway through the entire process of getting to France. which began late last year.
First, I was accepted into the Internship Program at BYU in December {?} 2009.
I then applied for the assistant program with France in January 2010. I was put on the waiting list and after months of waiting I finally found out in April that I was accepted.
After that I had some more paperwork to do and passport pictures to send to my school and began the waiting process once more.
Now, it is mid July and I am {still} anxiously waiting for my Arrête de Nomination to arrive in the mail. This is simply the paperwork informing me of the school I will be teaching at. More importantly it is the paperwork I need in order to get my visa {which takes about 2-4 weeks to process}. To get my visa I must go to the Embassy in San Fransisco {as if things weren't expensive enough} so I can jump through some more hoops.
The next few steps include getting my flights together, tying up loose ends here in Provo and when I finally arrive in mid-late September finding housing {not awesome}.
I have definitely felt the pressure and stress these past few weeks but everything has been relatively easy. I've had to make myself realize that I can't control when my paperwork comes or when I will know where I will live. So I just wait for it and continue eating my 15 pounds of chocolate a day.
I'm now in the last few weeks before I go and so far all has gone smoothly and I will hopefully continue to do so.
Fingers crossed.
À la prochaine!
